['grɪkwəlænd], zwei Landschaften in der Republik Südafrika, benannt nach dem Volk der Griqua (Hottentotten-Mischlinge), die sich, aus dem Gebiet um Kapstadt kommend, zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts in der Trockensavanne nördlich des mittleren Oranje angesiedelt hatten. Nach den ersten Diamantenfunden in diesem Gebiet wurde es als Griqualand West (Hauptort: Griquatown) 1871 britische Kolonie (1880 Teil der Kapkolonie). - Eine Gruppe der Griqua war bereits 1861 in das Gebiet südöstlich der Drakensberge gewandert, das als Griqualand East (Hauptort: Kokstad) 1875 ebenfalls britisch wurde.
